Recovery Audit: What you need to know
VA will conduct required recovery audits of potential overpayments to community providers during fiscal years 2022-2023. Cotiviti GOV Services (Cotiviti) will conduct the audit in June of this year.

3/8/2024: VA Approves Audits for Claims Paid During Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023
As the Recovery Audit Contractor for The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Cotiviti is under contract to fulfill the
Payment Integrity Information Act of 2019 requirements to review payments made to community providers during Fiscal Years 2022–2023.
As required, Cotiviti has posted the preliminary audit plan under the Preliminary Audit Plan tab above. The proposed audit plan will be open for public review and commentary for the next 30 calendar days. Upon completion of the 30-day posting period, VA and Cotiviti will review comments and make appropriate adjustments before the plan is finalized. The final audit plans will be posted to Cotiviti’s public website before the audit begins.
4/6/2023: FY18 Review and Results Letters
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded a recovery audit contract to Cotiviti GOV Services (Cotiviti) to review Fiscal Year 2018 (FY18) inpatient payments made by the VA. Cotiviti will start mailing review results letters to respective providers notifying them of possible overpayments in April 2023. The review results letters will provider audit details, and dispute rights and process.
Providers are encouraged to respond to any correspondence timely by submitting all supporting documentation or requested information within 30-days of receipt or by contacting Cotiviti's Provider Relations team at

11/21/2022: Cotiviti VARAC Provider Services Closure Friday November 25, 2022
Cotiviti VARAC Provider Services will be closed on Friday November 25, voicemail will be returned on Monday November 28.
The Provider portal is available 24/7 to review and download audit letters and update contact information.
9/14/2022: Veterans Affairs (VA) Recovery Audit Contract (RAC) Results Update
Cotiviti VA RAC is in receipt of provider submitted documentation and will be posting audit outcomes to the secure VARAC Provider Portal in the near future. Please continue to monitor the VARAC homepage for updates and announcements regarding when audit outcomes will be available.
In the interim, we encourage you to monitor your VARAC Provider Portal account to confirm receipt of medical records and track any new additional documentation requests. We appreciate your patience as Cotiviti and the VA Office of Finance continue to finalize program details.

Cotiviti's VARAC Provider Portal was built with you in mind. In addition to providing 24-hour access to audit status, RAC issued letters, and the ability to customize your contact information, our secure, web-based application is now accepting direct uploads of medical records. The enhanced functionality will reduce your administrative efforts and cost by allowing direct upload of medical documentation in real time.
